Should this be a part of the website design or is it separate?
As I am about to cough up a whole wad of very hard earned cash for a new website (still deciding) I am still unsure as to how this works. I just know it’s really important!!

It is part of the website, actually more in the structure and the content of the site then the layout. Although nobody outside of google knows the exact algorithms that they use to calculate the rankings, things that influence it greatly, other then the site structure, is how often the content is added to the site, how unique it is, and how many links back to the page from other sites exist.

Something that is also new of late that they are calculating on are the number of comments on a article or post on a webpage or blog.

As they said above, it is an integral part of a website. I am busy redoing my entire site on a content management system for ease of optimisation.

I got caught in the trap of launching my site and then going through it to optimize. I am currently only getting about 500 unique visitors a month on my current site.

Be very wary of all in offers from providers as while the site will look fantastic and visually will be awesome it may not be search engine friendly!!!

It is a very good idea to chat to your designer about this before you hand over any money or award any contracts. Maybe find someone through this community???

That’s exactly the problem! It’s a bit like having my car repaired the mechanic can tell me he’s going to do this and that and it looks great when it’s done. But in truth I have no clue!!

Nice topic. Ultimately, this means more people will find the Website, which can translate to increased sales and lead generation.

A solid seo structure is vital BEFORE you even think about design, nice flashy bits or anything that looks good.

Navigation, internal links, sitemaps, image names, url structure, naming conventions, folder structure - this is just a start. After a year of being up my window and door site is still based on a basic template, and we have not yet even done the design yet due to ensuring that we are on the right seo track (and just too busy!).

As a result we have a low bounce rate of 28%, and between 4000 and 5000 unique visitors a month in a niche market... and the site is only 30 to 40% complete...

Our offices are in Plumstead, and I am currently looking for a junior web designer/ developer to work on contract or full time - so if you know of anyone they are more than welcome to contact me.

One also needs to remember that SEO is something that you constantly need to work on, especially since your competition increases all the time. Getting high page rankings does not happen overnight, so you also need to be patient
