I am considering creating a website where people with an interest in natural health, wellness, organic produce, eco friendly living etc can share articles, discuss various topics and so on....

The site would cover things such as

• eating and juicing for health
• cancer prevention through diet
• foods that help high blood pressure, prevent diabetes etc
• growing your own fruit and veg / organic produce
• eco friendly initiatives

Now, I have a domain that I am considering using - www.ecohub.co.za

I am a little concerned that it is too agricultural and might not be a perfect fit with the natural health aspects of the site, although these topics are very closely related.

What do you think?

I have been a diabetic (type 2) for 15 years, have traveled extensively gathering cooking tips and participating in short cooking seminars wherever I could. Being diabetic has opened up a whole new world of culinary experiences. I'm also busy working on the content of my site which will include condiments, salsas,bread spreads, soups, mains and new and different salads - all tried and tested ( no sugar/no preservatives/no coloring/low fat ) Eastern/Mediterranean/African fusion. Would be very interested in your proposed venture and would by happy to share.

I think your idea is great and that you will gain a lot of readers. But your domain name might be a little too generic for the topics you want to cover regarding health. Ecohub sounds more like an environment-related site than health-related content.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, I know it sounds rather environmental, but I do think that the topics are closely related.

For example:

I might ask how to get the best yield from the tomatoes I am growing on my balcony, and in a related post someone may want to ask what the healthy benefits of tomatoes are. For one, they help prevent prostate cancer...

I have just secured a dealership to sell various healthy and environmentally friendly products such as juicers, water filters, air purifiers etc.

Any other ideas for names?

You could even go for something more out of the box like:

EarthFlavour
CleanFood
GaiaCuisine
...

A combo between the earthy goodness and clearly indicating that food is involved.

I quite like the sound of earthflavour, although I'm not sure that it is such a big improvement over ecohub that I would make the switch.

I think the last to reference food too directly.

I believe I'm too late to suggest a name or two. Hopefully these tips can help others with the same issue.

Although, I do suggest a couple of ideas for clients to choose a domain name.

Do a little keyword research. See what keywords are people often searching for. Include that keyword in your domain. I own health2u.co.za, based on this piece of advice. (Although the website is dead right now)
Make your domain name easy to remember and easy to spell. ecohub is complies perfectly to these criteria.
Touch on your prospects hot buttons. The person who gave me this tip got frequently the question 'What do you do?' when he gave his email address to people.

I set up using ecohub.co.za - I registered it in 2008, so i thought i may as well use it.

It's got off to a good start, will see how people use the site etc and adapt it as I need to.
