Hi All. I have my business idea, potential clients and an audience lined up, but what's keeping me back from actually getting my business up and running is one little, okay big, issue - collecting MONEY..

My business will be running on similar principals of sites like Groupon, Daddy deals and the like. Except it's aimed at a specific much smaller market segment and I will not be taking payments, the service provider (my clients) will be paid direct, and I will be paid for every successful deal.

Now the issue is that unfortunately one can not do business just by good faith. I need to in some way track my referrals in order for me to have proof that a certain referral was successful and then claim my "commission".

Any ideas of systems or methods that I can use to securely track my referrals?

How are you linking your customers to your service providers? Is it done through your website?

Hi Steven. Yes, I would advertise on my site, interested customers will then respond, I'll give them a promo code via email and then I need to find a way to track whether the deal was successful or not. Any ideas welcome.

I'm not entirely familiar with the process, but the only way I can see you achieving this is storing the promo code you email to the customers - store in a database. This promo code needs to also have all the information attached to it, e.g. Type of promo code(groupon/Daddy Deals/etc), and the email that it was sent to, preferable a user registered on your site.

Then you need inquire with the company (groupon, etc) whether X promo code was used to successfully purchase something. I'm sure this can be done via an API of some sort. OR they could send you a detailed report of all the promo codes used successfully/unsuccessfully.

You should then be able to tally this to your database records.
