Have you got any favourite social sharing plugins?

I see some of the bigger players in the social sharing game have not yet incorporated Google +1.

I think that we have now started to see Google +1 impact on search engine rankings, so it is of vital importance that we incorporate it into our websites.

I've stuck the Wibiya toolbar back on here, some of you that have been members for a while may remember it being on the site.
It's rather heavy on page load times, had branding linking to their site and takes up too much space - so it's not ideal.

Personally I prefer social sharing icons to be placed strategically within the website's content - for example at the end of articles or forum posts.

What are you guys using? What's the best social sharing plugin available?

For Joomla, Wordpress, Drupal??

I also use Wibiya on my site. With blogs I use the facebook developers plugins, like the one you have on the side on your site. I also place custom FB and Twitter buttons usually at the bottom right hand corner of my websites.

Other than that, I have not done much research. I would also like to know what others are using and where on the site is the best place to put them???

For some of the wordpress blogs I create I manually add the icons after each post. It's rather simple all you have to do is add the correct codes into the functions.php file and you done.

Adding the icons in yourself cuts out the need for plugins. Plugins often load unnecessary extras that increase load time.

When running a site that relies on many extensions etc, adding those buttons manually creates a problem, in that each time you update your systems, you need to go back and replace the hacks that you made. Hence the need for 1 good sharing plugin that can work in many areas....

I can't remember if joomla has a functions.php page like wordpress. Adding the social icons to the functions.php then just calling the function in the post works so easily.

Could something similar not be done using a social.php page then just using php include to call that page? Still could be a mission a update some times but might help load time. The wibiya thing could be done in 1 page and then have that 1 page included in everything.

I use Joomla and would love to have a Google+1 plugin.

You don't really need a plugin. You can just add the code into a Joomla custom module.
