Why starting small may be the right thing for you?

“Big dreams, to do big things” These word simply describe just how each and every one of us entrepreneurs start off. Most of us want to change the world, bring an innovative product into the market that will grow into a super-house almost instantaneously. This way of thinking is probably what defines us as entrepreneurs, the ability to conceptualise, plan, start and run a business venture successfully.

In this article i will share with you why starting small maybe the right thing for you and your business especially in terms of marketing. The article will also discuss the concept of starting small in your business venture as a whole.

Access to a million dollar budget

The above statement states the sad reality that is faced by most entrepreneurs whether start up or the “engineers of the game”. Arguably what would you do if you miraculously(lotto) had access to a MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET to fund your marketing effort? The answer you probably thinking of involves involves an excess of twenty new innovative ways and avenues to add your current marketing campaign or a total new strategy including sports endorsements, branded jets :) . One thing that we can agree on is, there is a whole lot you can or will be able to do with that amount of money.

Now back to reality

The sad reality or the exciting reality for some is, you probably do not have access to the huge chunks of money mentioned above. The question raised here is, so how can I market my business more effectively, efficiently and without access to such a huge sum of money? Well there are many ways to do so, but a point I would like to make is Id rather have you ask the question, how can i market my business effectively and efficiently without spending a dime?

This is what i refer as starting small. Spending minimally on your marketing campaigns, this is a very important concept in marketing. Starting small does not mean, you being reluctant on marketing your business and waiting for clients to suddenly come running to your do. What starting small means is identifying the most cost effective and efficient method for reaching your market and sustaining the use of that method until gradually you receive thousand calls a day. A thousand call a day will be the time when you have access to that million dollar marketing budget.

The 0.00 Marketing Budget

As matter worth noting, it is possible to market your business effectively and efficiently without spending a single penny. I would really be set for an argument if i say this statement in front of my more experienced but rather traditional business mentors. In traditional marketing every marketing campaign there has to be a huge cost factor involved, every effort has an economic value or cost that is either added the business or lost by the business. Well every effort, such as time and energy can be quatifiable and expressed in economic terms.  Certainly time and energy taken to visit a client, I believe are a less cost to your small business than paying for a half page ad in the classified section of a national newspaper.

The $0.00 marketing budget is starting small. Starting a business is the most educational and exciting experience most people will agree with me, but it can be very stressful and time consuming. As an entreprenuer some scholastic studies have show certain qualities that one has to possess to succeed. In terms of marketing, two such qualities or success factors are “commitment to the market” and “commitment to marketing”. This article focuses on the second factor “commitment to marketing”

Marketing is sustained effort

This is the first lesson that one needs to understand in order  be able to succeed at marketing. Sustained effort means consistency, how many facebook  pages do you come across for small business that have been inactive for two years(minimum). Fact is there is a lot more of these that you will ever come accross. MARKETING IS SUSTAINED EFFORT, the true success of any business marketing is depended on often the business has been able to sustain that effort over time.

Sustaining effort means dedicating time to market the business over time. Its no use using changing marketing tools every week. How do you measure their success, how do you know which ones work and which ones dont?
