Maybe you should send me the details of whoever did the plugin for you!

I must say my ratio of EFT vs CC payments are about 10 to 1. And I don't necessarily use the money in my Monsterpay account to pay my suppliers, I actually leave the money there for a rainy day! And I make sure the R8 withdrawal fee is justified. I suppose if you work solely on credit card payments and you want to use that money for your purchases it could be a problem. But I still suggest you speak to them and just check that what I've said is correct - they might have changed it in the meantime.

Still, I will stick to them if I can! Netcash etc all charge way higher service fees.

The netcash plugin was from www.jhshop.info/ - although to be honest it has been really difficult dealing with them.

Also - I am not sure if their Netcash plugin is compatible with Virtuemart 2.

The one thing I don't like about Monsterpay is that your customers have to register with them as well in order to make payment...

Hi there,
I have done a little bit of research into the options here.
Looking at some of the suggestions and applying them to what I had found out I realise that this is a very complex area and as it involves money so it is one that a lot of people will quite rightly be sensitive about.

In the threads above there were some pleasant experiences that people had had with Monsterpay. I also did google them and found other references that did not paint them in a good way. While some may say no smoke without fire, there is also the maxim that there are three sides to every story side A, side B and the truth. Monsterpay may indeed work very well if you are a South African based company. If you want to find verify their boni fides as a company you would need to approach CIPC.

Netcash looks a good choice. I particularly liked the way you don't need to change the software if your requirments change. I also liked that they provide you management reports. Without requesting a quotation I could not comment on their pricing structure.
PayPal I have a colleague who has used them and it is almost her sole source of income. Payment to her has been smooth and trouble free.

One final comment. Every solution has its good points and its bad points. How one works for one person does not mean that it will work the same for someone else. Also if one transaction type is more expensive on one soultion than another it is something that you would have to accept if the most important thing is true and that is that you get your money when you need it.

I have been using MYGATE for the last few years and must say I am very happy with there service. The only downfall is that you cannot do an eft straight from their payment gateway. I believe they are working on it.

So... I've been trying out various gateways over the last 2 weeks and here's want i've found.

Both Monsterpay and Payfast were easy to implement on my Joomla / Virtuemart website.

With Monsterpay - my first sale failed because someone was trying to pay from Europe and they detected this as possible fraud. The tech support told me that they need to verify their credit card details and this could take up to 4 days (a ref number has to appear on the statement etc).

After having this bad experience with Monsterpay, my client read about them online - she read fraud complaints and became very worried that she would have to block her credit card etc.

Payfast has a better checkout system, I don't like how monsterpay require a verification number to be sent via email.
My first transaction went through Payfast without any problems. I just got a shock when I logged in - I didn't realise that they still add 14% to the commission fee. That its another R10 or R12 to withdraw funds.

I switched back to Monsterpay, I just logged into my Ecommerce backend and see that someone tried to order something on Saturday. Once again Monsterpay's fraud system was triggered and the transaction failed. I called the client now and they said that they tried to pay on my site with 2 different cards, but both failed. They then ordered from one of my competitors.

Thanks Monsterpay - I just lost a R3500 sale. I've now switched back to Payfast although I hate the thought of paying 4.9% + 14% VAT and extra to withdraw my money!!

Hi

Well, i have two websites and they both use Monster Pay, and the only trouble i have had was fraudster wanting to buy with stolen cards. I am very impressed with them, and reality, their fees are cheap, I threw Paypal out after two weeks and that was the worst of the lot

Good luck

And how did you know that this was really fraud?

Monsterpay blocked 2 of my legitimate transactions as their fraud system was triggered. I lost quite a bit of money because of this.

Singapore and Africa, this is where it came from, and it was reported even to the SAPS who confirmed they will handle it, otherwise I could have shipped sports equipment, and pay the bank back, double loss.

Have you spoken to them telephonically, I find them to be very user friendly.

Ja I called them, they were friendly and helpful... they said to me that my clients transaction was blocked because it appeared that they had tried to pay from 5 different devices within a short time.

I called my client and she said that she tried first with her credit card and it was block then with her husbands and it was also blocked. They only tried from one laptop.

So - it seems that Monsterpay's fraud detection system is not very accurate.

Like I said - 2 out of 2 legit transactions blocked.
