4th Annual Property Indaba
The real estate industry in South Africa is one of the major business sectors and has been faced with economic uncertainty over a couple of years. Majority of these issues are mainly influenced by government and the private sector through legislative and policy interventions. Recently the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform released a Green Paper on the 31st August 2011, which proposes ways to correct the imbalances of South Africa’s history without disrupting agricultural production and food security. Successful execution of such interventions will have positive impacts on the economy of the country, however, on the contrary if unsuccessful may cause serious economic turmoil. The JSE real estate sector, which comprises mostly of retail, office and industrial buildings, is experiencing a growth spurt: where does this leave the property business? Does it still make sense to hang on to buy-to-let investments, given the poor prognosis for house price growth over the next three to five years? Or is it time to switch from residential to commercial property? Organisations such as the Department of Public Works, the Estate Agency Affairs Board, the Department of Rural Development & Land Reform and the Department of Human Settlements continually aim to transform the property industry into a highly globally competent market.

The 2nd Annual Property Indaba will interrogate issues that affect the industry to ensure a globally competitive and ethical real estate industry in South Africa. Some of the issues include business enterprise development support, property financing opportunities and land reform.
Unlawful and unethical practices in the rental sector, the importance of sustainable/green building and the impact the industry has on the environment and the economy. Industry experts will come together during this Four day Indaba to discuss and come up with possible solutions to ensure a well placed South African Property Sector in the global competitive stage.

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to network with and learn from diverse contributors in the Property Industry. South Africa’s property problems can only be resolved by its property practitioners and policy makers.
