So why do you have a website? Think about it. Most people don't. It seems to usually fall under the business essentials checklist: Logo, Business cards, Website.

All too often a website is just there because "Our clients expect us to have one".
Few people actually take the time to think about their website as the most valuable marketing tool they have available. Over the next few weeks I'm going to write about the reasons you should have a website and more importantly why it should be at the centre of your marketing strategy.

First let's look at some numbers… Worldwide there are close to 2 Billion Internet* users.

  • Africa 111m
  • Asia 825m
  • Europe 475m
  • Middle East 63m
  • North America 266m
  • Latin America 205m
  • Oceania 21m

In South Africa alone we have close to 6 million users and that number is set to double by 2014. We have some of the fastest and largest undersea internet cables being laid around the tip of Africa which will see our internet speeds increase exponentially. We've already seen data prices tumble while speeds continue to increase. Have you ever considered that your website is visible by that many people?

So here's reason #1: Perception

You website is instantly accessible to the world. Your brand, products, contact details and so on are visible to anyone with an internet connection. How do you want them to see you? Your customers and prospects will Google you and your competitors before making a decision on which brand to use. The decision will all be based on your website. Decisions are made in seconds online. Are you showing your company and product in the best possible light? Are you giving the end-user a reason to call or submit an email? To chose you over your competitor?

These are questions so many people fail to ask when building their website. They end up frustrated and disillusioned because they chose to "tick the box" rather than consider the effect their website could have in generating new business. The simple fact is, you are not building a website for your company or yourself; you're building it for your customer. For their convenience.

the question to ask is how will your customers perceive you or your company based on your website? Is it up to date? Is it kept up to date regularly? Do you monitor your competitors? If you're not sure what to look for, we'd be happy to send you a FREE website analysis report. Just fill in the form on the right hand side and we'll send you a breakdown of your website.
